WAS OZZIE, RIGHT???

About not being allowed entry into the Arena by the PFD while on duty and armed?

If in fact Ozzie was “On Duty” I believe he was right, and the PFD should work with both the Sheriff’s Office and SPD to figure out a solution for allowing armed “On Duty” plainclothes Cops into events.

I would have to assume that The Spokane Chief’s contract with the PFD requires that they pay for proper security which in the past has always been armed Cops in uniform to keep order and protect folks going to the event. I did that for years at hockey games and other venues. Back then of course we weren’t worried about a terrorist, or nut case shooting up the place. There were the very rare occasions when a person with a Concealed Weapons License would come to a hockey game or Concert, another fan would notice they were packing then come to us and we would figure out the safest location to approach them and politely ask the CWL holder to take the weapon out of the building then come back and enjoy the game.

Needless to say, any cop would like to have, trained, and sober extra armed help during a shootout, and I’m sure that is a point Ozzie and others will undoubtedly bring forward. However, most cops sure as hell wouldn’t want an off-duty cop or private citizen who had been tipping a few shooting away during the gun battle whether they were adequately trained or not.

Armed people and booze don’t mix, and that is one of the reasons law enforcement agencies, including Ozzie’s, have policies prohibiting drinking to the point while packing where the drinking might “adversely affect the member’s senses or judgement.” … 24/7 or not. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think Ozzie is a drinker, and I have NO REASON to believe he would have touched a drop even if he had been allowed in the Arena armed.

312.5.3 ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

Firearms shall not be carried by any member, either on- or off-duty, who has consumed an amount of an alcoholic beverage, taken any drugs or medication, or has taken any combination thereof that would tend to adversely affect the member’s senses or judgment.

One or two I guess might be okay for Deputies per policy, but I sure as heck wouldn’t want booze or anything else showing up in a drug screen if possible in an Officer Involved Shooting if I were the head honcho. There is always the UC (Under Cover) Dilemma … how many is too many when you are working a UC Case, and do cops do UC Cases during events? I would hope so, sometimes events are a good place to score for obvious reasons.

Aside from the armed, uniformed, On Duty cops hired by the Chiefs I’m sure there are lots of cops that are hockey fans who go to the games have a few brewskies and enjoy the game, and I think the PFD may have a right to make sure those guys and gals aren’t packing heat. Up to this point, it hasn’t been a problem, or at least no one has had their face in the camera complaining.

The question arises in my mind, and in the minds of others who have been head honchos is whether this big media production was worth it for Ozzie and his Outfit. Unless Ozzie had some Intel from his Confidential Informants that the Constitutionalists or ISIS were planning an attack on the hockey game and he needed to supplement the security already in place at the Arena what was the big deal about him having to walk out to his car/rig and lock up his weapon that evening? To keep from getting in a public pissing match with Twohig, flashing his Molon Labe pistol grips, and going on about the “atrocious” Bureaucrats, isn’t it something that could have been resolved quietly the following day between the PFD, SCSO, and SPD if security wasn’t lax? Many folks think so!

The loser in this situation along with the dedicated folks at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office might just be Spokane Chiefs owner Bobby Brett, heaven forbid if the PFD decides to up the ante on security costs during hockey games.

What is missing, for me anyway in this mess is the game score. Who won the damn benefit game, and who was in net for the Spokane Cops, Brad Moon, or maybe even Prosecutor Larry Haskell?

So, what is the big deal about Ozzie having the Battle Cry for all the Gun Rights Activists fearing Obama was going to take their guns away on his “On Duty” or “Off Duty” weapon?

No big deal I guess, Ozzie is the Sheriff and can do what he wants. I just thought it was interesting since the second I saw the grips which Ozzie so graciously displayed to KHQ it struck me as not in very good judgement even if the weapon is a Spartan 1911, you can always change the grips.

I kind of look at it this way. If Ozzie did get in a gun battle during the hockey game and his weapon was photographed, taken as evidence I wonder how having Molon Labe on his grips would look in a close call OIS for the defense, civil litigation plaintiff, or even folks on the other side of the Second Amendment Issue. My guess is not all that great, so why bother unless those are the best shooting grips you can come up with.

I don’t see on duty Uniformed Deputies sporting those grips, and Ozzie wasn’t sporting them when we met. I suppose the Pro-Gun Activists would disagree with me…but seriously…is it necessary?

How about a Tattoo instead?

INTERESTING PERSONALIZED PISTOL GRIPS!!!

Ozzie sports while “on duty”!

Not the same ones he wears while he is on duty in uniform of course, but who knows, perhaps he would just as soon not have them displayed in public? He did however make sure Patrick Erickson from KHQ got a good shot of them, so Ozzie must like them.

Yes, Ozzie is number 1, and maybe that is what the guy who gave him and his wife the finger on I-90 was trying to tell him, instead of trying to get a Negligent Driving Ticket.

A little closer look at Ozzie’s pistol grips might give a clue as to why he would want them hidden under a coat… heck I don’t know… you tell me.

Of course, anyone can get personalized pistol grips, so it isn’t a big deal.

grips

I wonder if the grip on the other side is the same as the side Patrick Erickson got a photo of?

I’m not quite sure what the meaning behind Ozzie’s on duty pistol grips are or what the inscriptions mean…Latin… Greek??? 🙂 Perhaps someone familiar with them might know. I’d ask Ozzie, but he isn’t returning my emails for some reason.

WHERE DO YOU HIDE YOUR DUTY WEAPON?

When you are playing in a hockey game?

Poor Ozzie is getting picked on again, and when I noticed this story I couldn’t help to relate back to my days playing for the Spokane Police Fire Hockey Team, including playing benefit games like the one mentioned in this story.

election_knezovich_7_jpg_t1170

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/feb/11/sheriff-told-to-disarm-before-entering-spokane-are/

Knezovich arrived at the arena for the Spokane law enforcement vs. Tri-Cities law enforcement charity event before the Spokane Chiefs hockey game when he was forced to disarm himself before going inside.

“If they’re not in uniform how would we know they’re on duty?” he said.

Knezovich said he was wearing a suit with a badge on the lapel. The security staff recognized him and were apologetic, he said.

“This is atrocious,” he said. “Every year I go there. Every year I’ve been armed.”

I can’t help but wonder what all the cops playing in the game did with their own duty weapons. A cop of course is theoretically “on duty” 24/7 and that is why law enforcement agencies have policies regarding carrying their weapons off duty, as well as when they should and should not become involved in an issue like Ozzie’s policy below.

386-one386-two

Ozzie maintains he was “on duty” and in plain clothes, which is okay for sure and there are always lots of armed cops running around in plain clothes every day. Armed plain clothes cops sometimes get shot by other cops who don’t recognize them as cops. With Ozzie, at least around here, that isn’t a problem most people by virtue of his media presence know who he is whether he is in uniform, as he usually is or not.

Back in the day, we didn’t have any problem locking our weapons in the trunk of our cars before entering a venue or building, and especially where there were lots of kids and innocent folks who could get hurt or killed in a shootout.

Times have changed, and gun rights activists will point out that being armed in a venue the like Arena would prevent more people from getting killed during a shootout or terrorist attack. They may have a point of course. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the Second Amendment, but as far as I’m concerned, the issue has really gotten out of hand.

It really is funny how things often relate to each other in this town. If you follow the OZZIE/BUFF Episodes you will see that one of the stories I wrote that Ozzie didn’t like was this one.

https://examplepro.me/2016/09/19/hilarious-spokane-stuff/

Above I just point out the truth about the usual HSS. In the OZZIE/BUFF Episodes you will find that Ozzie didn’t know about Deputy Travis Pendell’s presentation in front of Jeff Ware’s Northwest Coalition of Patriots.

You might notice if you watch the video in the above story Jeff Ware himself was denied entry into a City Building with his weapon. Jeff is a hard-core gun rights activist, nothing wrong with that, but in my view both sides of the issue are way over the top.

Ozzie states that it was “atrocious” that he had to go lock his weapon in the trunk of his car or truck, which ever one he was driving that day, But the truth is what would really be “atrocious” is if any of those cops stored their weapons in a hockey bag. If you have ever played the game or lived with someone who has you would know just how badly those hockey bags STINK, and heaven forbid if some of that stink transferred to the weapon. Even more “atrocious” would be if one of the cops concealed his weapon in his hockey pants … you can figure out just how bad that would be for yourself.

One has to wonder how many  Confidential Informants Ozzie has in these various gun advocate groups?

I wonder if the Tri-Cities Cops knew who Ozzie is?
