When I broke the story regarding the Jody Wallette, Officers Scott Lesser and Winston Brooks issue on December 8, 2021, and it was picked up by the Spokesman Review on December 17, 2021, I was glad to see other local media finally taking a look at just how bad things are at SPD because in order to change the culture at SPD it will take an aggressive, hard-working media willing to do take the time to dig deeply into issues of government misconduct.

I have reported on issues with SPD PACT for well over two years, including documenting the lack of transparency and obstructionism on the part of Mayor Woodward, Chief Meidl, and the Director of SPD IA Jacqui MacConnell when someone tries to get to the truth. There is considerably more to the SPD PACT issues that the MSM has yet to cover including the Carlos Torres Medrano case in which Officer Brook’s testimony was also called into question.

When I brought the Medrano case to the attention of OPO Bart Logue he did pass the information on to SPD and a very non-legitimate was conducted by City Attorney Michael Ormsby so nothing was done when things could have been dealt with.

Of course with respect to Meidl’s email to CP Beggs nothing could be further from the truth. I like many other current and retired members of SPD want it cleaned up o the Good Cops don’t have to suffer from the Bad Cops.
The real story in all of this, which I am working on, and other reporters should be is how the Spokane Police Guild worked Mayor Woodward and the City Council to have the OPO gutted and completely muzzled.
